Over 200 years ago the Poor and Town’s Land Charity was established. Historically part of the income was to be distributed at Easter amongst ‘poor persons of the parish of Wigginton, the remainder for the support of a bull’.
The small Charity is mainly funded through Wigginton Parish Council rent receipts from the allotments and most of the lease for the playing fields.
In the recent past the charity has contributed to the IT fund for local school children, small grants have been provided to allow individual pupils to attend residential school trips, as well as supporting families with the cost of living during the summer months.
Charitable funds from the Poor and Town’s Land Charity have also been used to support individual residents of Wigginton who may be experiencing financial hardship, or who are struggling with an unexpected expense.
The Charity works through intermediaries to provide support where it is needed.
