WELCOME!
Nestled just four miles north of the historic city of York, Wigginton is a charming village and civil parish. With a close-knit community of around 3,600 residents, the village has a rich history and a welcoming atmosphere.
Over the years, Wigginton has been part of several administrative areas—from its roots in the North Riding of Yorkshire, to Ryedale district, and now as part of the City of York unitary authority since 1996.
Surrounded by open farmland to the north and bordered by the neighbouring township of Haxby to the east, Wigginton enjoys both peaceful countryside and easy access to the city, with the York Outer Ring Road and local routes connecting it to the wider area.
Life in Wigginton is full of charm and community spirit. At the heart of the village is Wigginton Primary School, where learning takes place under the watchful eye of the village’s award-winning pond, home to a lively family of wild ducks that even appears on the school badge. Just a short stroll away, the well-stocked village store caters to everyday needs, while two welcoming pubs offer a friendly place to meet neighbours. Families and dog owners enjoy the children’s play area and dog walking space, lovingly maintained by the Churchfields Open Space Committee, and residents with a green thumb can make use of the village allotments to grow their own produce. Sports enthusiasts benefit from excellent facilities provided by the Wigginton Sports and Playing Fields Association which support local sports clubs including tennis, football, squash, bowls and pétanque.
Faith and fellowship also play a central role in village life, with St Nicholas Church and Haxby and Wigginton Methodist Church offering spaces for worship, community events, and support networks. At the heart of it all is The Old School, the village hall where the parish council meets and local clubs and classes bring residents together. In Wigginton, the blend of friendly amenities, community activities, and a strong sense of connection makes the village a welcoming place for everyone.
